Preventing rodents at home and at work
Rodents —mice and rats— don't just cause damage; they carry pathogens and gnaw cables, creating health and fire hazards. Prevention starts with sealing entry points and managing food properly.

Why rodents get inside
They seek warmth, food and shelter, especially as temperatures drop in autumn and winter.
A mouse fits through a gap of just a few millimetres; even small cracks around doors, pipes or vents are enough.
Signs of an infestation
Droppings (small and dark), gnaw marks on food and cables, greasy trails along walls and noises at night.
A strong ammonia smell or nests of shredded material indicate an established population.
Prevention steps
Seal cracks and openings around pipes, doors and windows with durable materials.
Store food and pet food in airtight containers.
Keep storage areas and bin points clean.
Remove standing water and moisture sources.
Treatment methods
Locked, tamper-resistant bait stations are placed at selected points, limiting access by children, pets and other non-target animals to the rodenticide baits.
Mechanical traps are an alternative or complementary method, particularly in spaces where rodenticides are avoided.
When you need professional rodent control
Recurring or extensive rodent activity calls for an organised control programme. In food businesses in particular, monitoring and documenting rodent-control actions is an important part of hygiene and self-inspection procedures (HACCP).
The professional locates activity points, assesses the risks, applies suitable measures and documents every action.
