Protecting yourself from mosquitoes
Mosquitoes aren't just annoying; they can transmit pathogens. Effective protection relies on eliminating the standing water where they breed and on targeted treatment.

Where mosquitoes breed
They need standing water: pots, saucers, gutters, drains, barrels and forgotten containers.
Even small amounts of water are enough to complete the breeding cycle in a few days.
Prevention steps
Regularly empty any standing water on balconies, yards and terraces.
Clean gutters and drains so water doesn't pool.
Fit screens on windows and doors.
Cover water tanks and barrels.
Personal protection
Use approved repellents and suitable clothing. The common mosquito bites mostly at dusk and dawn, while the tiger mosquito also bites during the day.
Screens on doors and windows limit mosquitoes getting indoors. Suitable repellent devices can be used in addition, following their instructions for use.
Professional treatment
Professional mosquito control is based on finding and eliminating breeding sites, larvae control where required and targeted measures to reduce adult mosquitoes, in line with current specifications and the approved uses of each product.
In commercial and shared spaces an integrated programme with mapping of the sources is applied.
